Keep on training...
I did go to the beaches of Normandy again today, near Deauville. Unfortunately, the wind was soft, far too soft, arround 8kph. I had a hard time using my kites. My trainer kite, 1.8m2, would not launch more than a few seconds. My other kite, a small 2m2 traction kite did a little better, but not a lot of fun. At least I got a few pictures taken by Kim, my lovely wife.

Myself handling the Samourai 2 with an Ozone bar....
Close up...

Update on Trainer kite...
... been busy those days, I had little time to update.
I did finaly received the stuff: a small Takoon trainer kite (1.8m2), together with lines (2) and a small bar. I did bought an extra leach to make it safer. I have started to play with it first on the beach of east coast (US), Seabrook beach north of Boston. Wind was mild, arround 9 mph. Took me 1 hour to figureout how to lauch that thing, but then really got funny. I was surprised how reactive was the kite, I guess it has to do with its small size. I did get power sensation, but not impressive given the size and the wind.
Not being good at following all advices - my good friend Fred told me not to do so - but I did also bought a small (2m2) traction kite with 4 lines, together with a bar - Ozone Samurai for the kite, Ozone bar (there was a great promo when I ordered the other). I first tried this one on the beaches of Normandy (in France), with low wind, 6 mph. Even thought that kite is not much bigger, the traction is much much stronger, and it is quite interesting to play with.
So, I do now learn how to fly these kites, my plan is to do this all winter. I was in Florida (Miami) this week-end, and could play with both, wind was in the 15-23 mph range, quite fun, got some good traction sensation. Wind was quite unstable, got me a sense of what tought condition will be, was not easy to stabilize the kite or get constant traction.
Quite likely that I will go back to Normandy this week-end - I am back in France - in will get my wife to shoot a few pics and post for fun.
So, there are my first 'learn to fly kite' impressions. Side note: how do you guys think I figureout how strong is the wind with such precision ? Those who know mw know I am a gadget freak... so I bought a very nice wind speed indicator... boys with toys.
Lastly, it looks like I am going to be pretty ready soon to have a complete set of stuff to start real kitesurfing.... saving this for another post.
- Enjoy your flight
